When a repair attempt is worth it
Use value, damage type, and your goal to decide between a clean, a repair attempt, or leaving the card alone.
A repair attempt is the deeper tier: more time on dents, minor creases, scratches, and warp, with no promise that the card will look new. It is the right call sometimes. It is an expensive way to avoid looking at a common crease the rest of the time.
Good candidates
- Higher-value or sentimental cards with damage that has not removed paper or ink
- Light to moderate dents and bends that have not cracked through the print
- Residue or grime that makes the card look worse than the board underneath
- Collectors who want a better display piece and understand the limits
If you plan to grade, read the current rules first. Some work can block a numerical grade.
Poor candidates
- Cards whose replacement cost is close to the repair fee
- Whitening, missing ink, torn corners, or cuts
- Cards someone already sanded, painted, or heated
- Jobs where the only success you will accept is “looks pack fresh”
We would rather send a no than take a card we cannot help.
How we decide on the quote
Photos first. Then a written plan that names the work, the tier, and the risks. You can decline and keep the card. If you approve, you pack using the mail-in guide and we start after intake.
If you are stuck between “clean only” and “repair attempt,” ask for both options on the same card. The cheaper honest job is often the right one.
