Corner dings and edge wear: prevention and reality

Corners take the first hit in a box, a binder ring, and a careless riffle. Edge whitening is usually paper showing through, not dirt sitting on top. Those two facts should change how you store cards and what you expect from a studio.

Prevention is the only clean fix

Sleeve chase cards as soon as they are pulled. Do not tap a raw stack on the table to even the edges. Do not store loaders loose in a tote where they can click together. In the mail, the cardboard sandwich exists to keep other parcels from folding a corner.

If you buy used, zoom the listing until you can see all four corners. Cropped photos hide the worst ding.

Whitening is not grime

Cleaning cannot replace missing paper or ink. We do not recolour edges. We do not rebuild corners. A lifted edge with the original material still attached may be worth an assessment. A chewed corner is usually a keep-it-as-is card.

Anyone offering to “paint the white back” is talking about alteration, not repair.

When it is still worth writing in

Sometimes the ding is actually a pressure dent near the corner, not missing paper. Sometimes dirt makes edge wear look worse than it is. Photos from above and from a slight angle are enough for us to tell you which one you have.

If the honest read is “leave it,” that is the assessment. Saving you a shipping loop is part of the job.
